Degree in Law (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens), LL.M. (UCL).
Mr. Georgopoulos is the founding and managing partner of Costas Georgopoulos & Partners Boutique Law Firm. He received his Degree in Law from the University of Athens, 1981; he has a Master of Laws degree (LL.M.) in Maritime Law from UCL, University of London 1982.
He practices before Greek Courts of all levels, he was admitted to Athens Bar in 1982 and was qualified to practice before the Supreme Court of Greece in 1992. His areas of practice are maritime law; corporate and litigation (including charter parties, carriage by sea, collision, salvage, marine insurance, sea pollution); civil litigation-dispute resolution.
In the mid-eighties he acted on the instructions of various London Law firms and in 1992 worked in the London office of Ince & Co. He is a member of the Hellenic Maritime Law Association. He provides strategic advice, counsels and acts for many shipping companies, mutual insurance companies (clubs), multinational corporations and international traders. He has handled over the years major shipping accidents and has over thirty years’ experience in shipping and its related disputes including marine casualties, shipping litigation, criminal litigation related to shipping matters, P&I and FD&D work, MOA disputes and ship building cases.
Mr. Georgopoulos has acted inter alia on behalf of the Greek State (Ministry of Energy), the British State (Ministry of Defence), State of Libya, the Norwegian Hull Club, Lloyds Underwriters, ACE INSURANCE S.A., AXA Corporate Solutions SA, Α.Ε.Ε.Γ.Α. «Η ΕΘΝΙΚΗ», Hellenic Petroleum, DEPA, Squire Patton Boggs, all the major P&I Clubs (GARD, the London Steamship P&I, U.K. P&I, West of England P&I, North of England, MS Amlin), major London Law Firms, major ship’s operators (TSAKOS SHIPPING AND TRADING SA, NAVIOS, Enterprises Shipping & Trading S.A., Dynacom Tankers Management LTD, Eletson Corporation, Centrofin Management, Zim Lines, Zodiac) and banks.
